Issues with improving aluminum plate quality

Aluminum plate products are widely used in industries such as automotive and construction. Improving the quality of aluminum products is fundamental to the survival of enterprises. Aluminum materials are extremely unstable in the air and are prone to forming an oxide film that is difficult to identify with the naked eye. Due to different processing methods of aluminum parts, such as casting, direct cutting from rolled sheets, fine mechanical processing, or forming through different processes followed by heat treatment or welding, the surface of the workpiece will present different states with varying degrees of dirt or marks. Therefore, in the pretreatment process, it is essential to choose the pretreatment method based on the actual condition of the workpiece surface.

In the pretreatment process, it is important to note that not all surfaces of cast parts undergo machining. Unmachined surfaces may have excessively thick oxide layers formed during the casting process, and some may even contain sand layers. In this case, the original oxide film in this area should first be removed using machining or sandblasting methods, or processed after alkaline washing. Only in this way can the original oxide layer on the unmachined area be completely removed while avoiding changes in the tolerance dimensions of the machined areas.

Issues to note for fine machined parts in the pretreatment process: Although the natural oxide film on the surface of fine machined parts is just beginning to form and is relatively easy to remove, they are heavily oily, especially in and around holes. These types of workpieces must first be cleaned with organic solvents. If alkaline washing is used directly, not only is the heavy oil difficult to remove, but the fine machined surface cannot withstand prolonged strong alkaline corrosion, which may ultimately affect the roughness and tolerance fit of the workpiece surface, potentially resulting in scrap.
